The U17 has a digging depth of 7 ft 7 inches. This is work enough when considering digging out for a pond or small hole. At a small 38 pds in weight, this excavator will not be a problem in small to medium yard spaces. Then at the top of the scale is the U45S with 11ft 10 inch digging depth. Now you get into some serious work, which calls for this bigger machine. The U45S has a bigger displacement but again with the rear overhang gone that becomes a non-issue.
